Plants bring the outdoors in and provide a natural air filtration system. They also look fantastic and can refresh your home with very little outlay.
Have you ever tried to grow an indoor plant and failed miserably? Here are 5 plants that require very little attention and are relatively easy to maintain.
Duffi Fern (Nephrolepis Cordifolia)
Ferns are hardy indoor plants and can grow in a range of conditions. The Duffi fern variety requires only filtered light or shade, however they don’t like shady damp spots. They can thrive on very little light so you don’t need to necessarily place them next to a window. Ferns are one of the most efficient air purifying plants. Water weekly.
Sansevieria (Mother-in law tongue)
Requires only filtered light and grows quickly. Place it near your back door or under a window for ideal growing conditions. A very tough and vigorous plant and it looks stunning too. Water every 10-14 days.
Codiaeum Croton (Garden Croton)
This attractive plant comes in a wide variety of shapes and colours, and can include red and green foliage. Water it weekly and mist it fortnightly to provide humidity, especially in winter. This beauty does not require direct sunlight and can be placed almost anywhere.
Zanzibar Gem (Zanioculas zamiifolia)
The Zanzibar is almost indestructible, does not like direct sunlight and only requires watering monthly. It does not tolerate frost very well, and should be kept indoors in the cooler months. It is a stylish addition to any home.
Ginseng ficus (bonsai)
This is one of the easiest bonsai plants to maintain. It consists of a tree like trunk that only requires watering fortnightly. Keep it out of direct sunlight and prune regularly. Don’t expect much growth from the bonsai, they are super slow growers.
All of the above varieties are widely available. These were purchased at either a Coles supermarket or Bunnings.
